Still billed as the most popular online action game, Counter-Strike often receives credit for popularizing teamplay in online games. Originally released in 1999 as a downloadable modification for the pivotal first person shooter Half-Life, Counter-Strike was a fixture on every serious PC gamer's machine by the time it was "officially" released by Sierra in 2000.
